Sunday 7th to Friday 12th October (Weekdays 9-2pm)
For the past seven years we have been twinned with the Church in Ifumbo, which lies in a very isolated and rural area of northern Malawi. Poverty in this area is beyond imagination, the land is hilly and rocky and the people are dependent on what they themselves can produce. Unfortunately, recently there has been periods of drought followed by heavy rains, all of which has led to a very poor harvest and near starvation for many people.
During the past seven years we have been able to transport life-saving equipment, clothing, tools, aids etc direct to the area. We have received very positive reports of the effect this has had on the lives of people across all age groups; babies have been provided with starter packs, post natal mothers have been given dignity through simple toiletries; children have been encouraged to attend school after being given shoes that helped them cope with the very difficult terrain; young women have been supported in their efforts to be self-sufficient by being provided with sewing and knitting equipment and the elderly sleep more comfortably when supplied with blankets. One elderly gentleman who had not left his hut for over a year had his life changed when he received a wheelchair.
It is that time of year again when we can all donate something to help our friends in Ifumbo and gain some much needed space in our own garages, lofts and wardrobes.
