This is an early Christmas message and, in a way, that’s no bad thing. For you see already (and for a while) we have been steered down the roads that take us away from the road to Bethlehem, the one road that is so important to journey on and so an early message can keep us going in the direction we really and truly need to be heading.
This is our time, in the Church, for celebrating the great mystery at the heart of our Faith; that God came to us in Jesus to share all that we know as life. He comes to journey with us along the many roads we take; to give us of Himself in every experience of life that is ours. His is the promised Presence at every turn, and such a Presence makes all the difference to us in life and in death.
God with us, God for us; that’s the message of Christmas as we see God’s wholehearted embodied commitment to us. And what is at the heart of this mystery? It is the love God has for everyone which cannot not reach out to us and seek to bring to our hearts the love that fills us with faith and hope.
May all of you know the Peace and Joy of Jesus this Christmas time. May the love He brings dwell deeply within your hearts. May the Presence He makes known be known to you deep within your spirit.
